New Nordic report: The role of language for integration |
This report
explores how the educational systems in the Nordic countries support second‑language
learning among children and young people from migrant backgrounds, and
discusses how existing measures can be improved to better promote inclusion and
integration. Learning the local Nordic language is crucial for all
learning, and a key driver of belonging, well‑being, and equality. The report
consists of a systematic review of research, expert insights from three leading
Nordic scholars in the field, and a concluding chapter with
recommendations the Nordic Network for Education for Newly Arrived Students,
representing ministries and national authorities across the region. |

UPCOMING WEBINAR: Preventing honour-based violence and oppression in the Nordic countries | At the
webinar, we examine how the Nordic countries organise their work to
address
honour‑based violence and oppression, presenting key findings from a new
study on policies and legislation, while highlighting both conceptual
approaches and practical successes across the region. Read more about the study here.

Conference report: How is the second generation doing in the Nordic countries?
|
This report discuss main points and conclusions raised by the experts speaking at
the Annual Nordic Conference on Integration held in Helsinki november 2025. The experts explored the theme from different angles, including new figures on second-generation outcomes in education, employment, and social participation, as well as policies and practices to bridge socioeconomic gaps and foster belonging across generations. The number
of persons with parents born outside the Nordic region is rapidly growing, and
play an ever more important role in shaping Nordic democracies and welfare
systems.

Nyt nordisk overblik: Børn med migrantbaggrund lever oftere i relativ fattigdom
|
Relativ børnefattigdom er blevet et centralt tema i de nordiske velfærdsstater, ikke fordi børn nødvendigvis mangler basale fornødenheder, men fordi økonomisk udsathed i stigende grad påvirker deres muligheder for at deltage i fællesskaber, uddannelse og fritidsliv. Den nye Nordic Status Report: Children and Youth at Risk of Poverty, udarbejdet af Nordisk Velfærdscenter, viser tydeligt, at børn med migrant- og flygtningebaggrund er blandt de mest udsatte grupper i Norden. Derfor er relativ børnefattigdom også et integrationsspørgsmål. Rapporten understreger, at “poverty risk is not just about money; it is also about participation and inclusion”, og netop deltagelse er afgørende for, at børn kan opleve sig som en del af samfundet. |
| | New research project: Integrating highly educated migrants in the Nordic labour market
| Highly educated migrants in the Nordic countries are more likely to find work than other migrant groups, but not always work that matches their qualifications. This project examines why and how labour market integration can be improved through better data, comparative analysis, and knowledge sharing across the Nordic region. The project
is led by Nordregio. | | | | |
Minja Tea Dzamarija: Evidence matters – shared facts are the foundation of integration
|
Integration policy should be guided by shared facts, not assumptions. The Nordic countries need a harmonised framework that captures both structural outcomes and lived realities. By combining quantitative data with qualitative insights, policymakers can move beyond measuring outcomes to better understand and improve inclusion across the region, says Minja Tea Dzamarija,
Coordinator of migration-related statistics and analysis at Statistics Norway.
Minja Tea Dzamarija is a member of The Nordic Migrant Expert Forum 2025–2027. The Forum recently presented 14 targeted recommendations to enhance migrant integration across the Nordic countries within four key areas: framing and foundation, structural domains, social and relational domains, and transformative practice.
