Enhancing active citizenships for young people with disabilities: Nordic side event at COSP19

Meaningful participation for young people with disabilities is essential in order
to enhance a socially sustainable society. How can we promote the active participation and representation of young people
with disabilities in civil society, public and political life?
The Nordic side event at the UN COSP19 brings together policymakers, experts and youth representatives. The aim is to discuss how we move beyond theoretical rights and toward practical inclusion.
The side event will be held at the UN Headquarters in New York and live streamed on 9 June at 4:45 PM–6:00 PM (UTC-4). |

Vilka hinder möter unga med funktionsnedsättning som vill resa eller flytta inom Norden? Och vilken slags information behövs för att öka mobiliteten?
Vid Nordic Youth Disability Summit 2026 gav deltagarna sin syn på hur den fria rörligheten i Norden kan främjas. Vid en workshop tillsammans med
Nordiska ministerrådets informationstjänst Info Norden diskuterades gränshinder, mobilitet och informationsbehov. Tjänsten ska utökas med tydligare information för personer med funktionsnedsättning.

50 years of Nordic co-operation on disability
|
Nordic co-operation in the disability field will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026. Its roots go back several centuries, but it gained real momentum with the development of the Nordic welfare model. Today, the co-operation includes an active council, extensive networks across the Nordic region and a five-year co‑operation programme that guides the work. The picture above shows the Council at the meeting in May at Musholm in Korsør, Denmark.

Finland och Åland var ordförande 2025 och lyfte fram vikten av ett systematiskt genomförande av CRPD, förstärkt kunskapsutveckling, nordisk samordning och ett tydligt barn- och ungdomsperspektiv.
| | | | | | Nytt projekt: Implementering av FN:s konvention om rättigheter för personer med funktionsnedsättning i Norden – artikel 31
| Alla nordiska länder har ratificerat FN:s konvention om rättigheter för personer med funktionsnedsättning (CRPD) och är därmed skyldiga att genomföra konventionen i nationell politik och praktik. Enligt artikel 31 ska staterna samla in och sprida statistik och forskning för att möjliggöra uppföljning av rättigheterna för personer med funktionsnedsättning. Trots detta åtagande saknas det i dag i stor utsträckning jämförbar och systematiskt sammanställd statistik i Norden om hur konventionen implementeras i praktiken.
Syftet med projektet är att förbättra kunskap, metoder och samordning kring genomförande och uppföljning av konventionen i de nordiska länderna. | | | | | Video: Employers and Inclusive Working Life

Nordic Perspectives on Disability and Work
This webinar presents recent Nordic research that explores work inclusion from an employer perspective. The focus is on how inclusion is understood and practiced at the workplace level, and how policies and initiatives aimed at promoting inclusion may both enable and constrain employment opportunities.

Nordens välfärdscenter avsätter cirka 1,5 miljoner svenska kronor varje år för att stimulera samarbete mellan funktionshindersorganisationer och organisationer för kroniska sjukdomar i Norden och Baltikum.
Utlysningen för medel för 2027 pågår under tiden 24 september till 29 oktober 2026.

| Each year, the Zero Project recognizes good practices and policies that remove barriers for persons with disabilities, based on their innovation, impact, and scalability. Innovators from all countries and all sectors of society can nominate their solutions for the Zero Project Awards. This year the Call for Nominations (#ZeroCall27) focuses on the topics of Independent Living, Political Participation, and Assistive Technology. #ZeroCall27 is now open. Nominations must be submitted by June 21.
